Pussycat Doll Nicole tells us all about herself

Pussycat Nicole tells all – well nearly all

The Pusssycat Dolls and espcially Nicole are famous for their raunchy outfits and their stage shows are raunchy and their song lyrics get most men hot under the collar.  But Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger insists she’s just a church-going girl !!!!! with a soft spot for board games – and her Formula 1 champion boyfriend Lewis Hamilton, who is frankly gorgeous.

Nicole Scherzinger

Daily Mail – Jane Gordon Wrote:

“It’s difficult to match the Nicole Scherzinger. I meet just before midnight in a hotel room in Melbourne with the bold, brilliant lead vocalist of the Pussycat Dolls who, just half an hour earlier, had received a rapturous reception from a 15,000-strong audience at the city’s Rod Laver Arena.

Not just because of the contrast between the clothes she is wearing now – baggy drawstring harem pants and a tank top – and the costumes she wears on stage (tight, shiny leather with more than a hint of sadomasochism), but also because of her demeanour.

Sweet, serious and softly spoken, Nicole might publicly be the driving force of the band – and the one on their Doll Domination world tour who looks most like a dominatrix – but, offstage, she is a quite different, very private person. With her face bare of make-up and her long dark hair in two pigtails, the 31-year-old singer looks years younger than she does in pictures and comes across more like an unsure schoolgirl than the super-confident woman she becomes while performing.

‘I’m very shy, but when I get on stage a whole other person comes out. The connection with the audience gives me this energy and I just come alive. But, when I was growing up, I was unbelievably awkward and shy and conservative. It’s funny, people hear the music and watch  me perform, and think I’m very intimidating, but if they were to meet me they would see that, underneath it all, I’m still that shy girl,’ she says with a smile.

Nicole’s journey from the awkward little girl who wore ‘church clothes every day’ to the woman I meet tonight (she describes her offstage image as ‘understated-rock-boho chic’) has been much longer and harder than her fans might imagine. Her Russian-Hawaiian mother, Rosemary, and Filipino father parted when she was just a baby and she was brought up by (and took the name of) her German-American stepfather Gary Scherzinger.

The Pussycat Dolls

When she was six, the family – she has a 22-year-old half-sister, Ke’ala – moved from her birthplace in Honolulu to Louisville, Kentucky, where, encouraged by her mother, she joined a performing arts group.

‘My mum and I have been through a lot together. She is just the most amazing woman. She was only 18 when she had me, and she has been such a hardworking and inspirational role model for me. Even now, my faith and my heart are so connected to her – she keeps me going,’ Nicole says.

After studying acting and musical theatre at Ohio’s Wright State University, Nicole sang backing vocals for a rock band and, in 2001, won a place in all-girl band Eden’s Crush through appearing on the American reality show Popstars (an experience she describes as ‘miserable’).

She joined the Pussycat Dolls – originally formed as a burlesque troupe – in 2003 and was instrumental in the recording success they achieved two years later when their debut album gave them seven international hits, including ‘Don’t Cha’ and ‘Stickwitu’.

Her lead vocals and her songwriting talents (she is the only Doll credited on either of their albums as a writer) have made her the most recognisable of the five-girl line-up. A solo album that she began recording in 2006 has yet to be released (she says the ‘timing’ has to be right), but she is now so high-profile, particularly since she started dating 2008 Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, that there are rumours of resentment among the other band members.

Nicole admits herself that she is a ‘relentless perfectionist’ and fellow Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton describes Nicole as the ‘most motivated’ of the group. So, after six years together, do they still have a recording future, and are they still close friends?

‘We are like a sisterhood, a family. We know when we need to give one another space and when we need to have a good laugh. The girls are always there for me and vice versa but, for the most part, I have always been a quiet person who walks to the beat of her own drum, so I can often be found on my own because I am thinking about work all the time,’ she says.

Nicole admits that achieving a work-life balance is very difficult, which probably explains why – after a gruelling concert – she is happy to grant me a late-night interview.

This slightly obsessive approach to her work is a trait, she admits, that she shares with Lewis. The couple met at an MTV awards ceremony in November 2007 and have been an item ever since – at least when their careers allow them.

Lewis is seven years her junior (she recently said their relationship was about ‘energy and spirit’ and that age wasn’t ‘relevant’) and sometimes looks a little awkward in her presence but, she insists, they are not only happy but perfectly matched.

‘We are very similar and can relate to one another a lot. We are both driven people who are serious about our work, so we are very supportive of the time we do have together. Finding time for each other can get complicated, but we find a way to work it out. And it just makes things more interesting when we do get together,’ she says with a nervous giggle.

But it isn’t just dual careers and gargantuan ambitions that unite Lewis and Nicole. They have, she says, the same sense of humour (they love watching Will Ferrell and Eddie Murphy films) and they are ‘spiritually aligned’. Both were raised as Catholics (Nicole tries to attend mass every Sunday) and she confirms that they have even been to church together.

‘Religion is an important bond. One of the most important things if you want to have longevity in a relationship is a good strong spiritual connection.’

Nicole is understandably concerned about talking too much about her boyfriend – who is struggling to stay in the top ten of this year’s Formula 1 rankings – not just because she wants to be seen as a Pussycat Doll rather than a motor racing Wag but also because she is worried about her words being misinterpreted. Only last month she was mortified when she was misquoted as saying she was ready to marry Lewis.

‘Someone asked me a general question about what I wanted in ten years and whether my ambitions included a family and then the next day it was in all the papers that “Nicole wants to marry Lewis”,  when that was the last thing I said. In ten years’ time
I would like to have accomplished a lot in my career – that is the most important thing to me.

‘My dream is to do my own music one day, to have an unbelievable tour, to have done some musical theatre and some film and maybe to have opened up a performing arts school for special needs kids. That is my ultimate dream, not marriage,’ she says with more than a little emotion in her voice.

On her relationship with the Dolls, Nicole says: ‘We are like a a family. We know when to give one another space and when to have a good laugh’

Other than work, the most important thing to Nicole is her family and her home in Los Angeles. She regards buying her parents a house in Hawaii as one of the biggest ‘accomplishments’ of her life.

‘I always used to say to my mother that one day I would buy her a house there and when I was making enough money that is the first thing I did. I am so proud and grateful that I was able to do that. Is my mother proud of me? I think so. She came with me earlier this year when we supported the first US leg of Britney Spears’s Circus tour and I think she cried every single night – but then, she does cry a lot because she is just so sweet,’ she says with affection.

Nicole finally met up with her birth father when she was 18 and, although she has had sporadic contact with him since, she remains closer to her stepfather Gary, whom she regards as her ‘real dad’. She is close, too, to her half-sister Ke’ala who lives in Tennessee with her husband and one-year-old daughter Lilliana – Nicole’s godchild.

‘Lilliana comes on tour to visit me, but our main contact is through Skype – it’s heaven being able to talk to her and see her at the same time. It was her birthday yesterday and I was able to sing to her, even though I was in Australia and she was in Tennessee, which was really important to me. She is an angel.’

The home in LA that Nicole ‘rarely’ gets to see is, she says, her ‘sanctuary’, the one place where she can truly unwind away from her relentless work schedule and the paparazzi. Along with watching comedies (she says laughter is very important to her), she enjoys – rather surprisingly – playing board games, a hangover from her childhood.

‘My favourite is Cranium, I love that, and I enjoy card games like Spades. Lewis and I have played board games. He is probably the most competitive person I know – I thought I was until I met him,’ she smiles.

Maintaining a private life when your relationship is public property is, she says, very difficult. ‘I understand that the interest in your private life is something that comes with the job you do, but when I am not on stage or performing I still find the paparazzi attention uncomfortable.

‘Lewis and I hide out a lot and try to steer clear of places where we might be seen, but sometimes we get caught out. We were recently in the Italian village of Portofino – I had no idea the rest of the world was going to see me, I wasn’t dressed to impress – but then the next day it turned out that there were paps everywhere. It does make life a bit more stressful when your time together is so precious and they don’t leave you alone,’ she says.

Have they, I ask, found ways of being alone? ‘Yes. Stay in,’ she grins. We have been talking for nearly an hour now and her voice is beginning to betray the fact that, after a triumphant but nonetheless punishing performance, she is utterly exhausted.

Maintaining her stamina – and her perfect body – is something that requires nearly as much work as her music (she jogs a lot and has a personal trainer). It is almost 1am, she has another concert tomorrow and she hasn’t had dinner yet. As we part I ask
her if she has a secret way of keeping up her energies when she is on tour.

‘Yes. PG Tips. If I need a last-minute boost I have a cup – I love my builder’s tea,’ she says with a long, low rumble of laughter.

The Pussycat Dolls’ new single ‘Hush, Hush’, taken from the album Doll Domination, will be released on 13 July through Interscope. For details of summer tour dates, visit pcdmusic.com”

Lewis is jealous when other men look at me, says Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger

Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger has revealed that her Formula 1 champion millionaire boyfriend Lewis Hamilton gets jealous at the attention she receives from other men.  The 30-year-old, who is famous for her sexy and raunchy stage costumes, says that Hamilton, 23, struggles with the thought of male fans ogling her.

‘He says he wishes the outfits were for his eyes only,’ said the singer.

‘I do turn down outfits,’ she said. ‘The thing about being a Pussycat Doll is feeling comfortable in your skin.’ She also insisted that she is not concerned about their seven year age gap and doesn’t think of Hamilton as her toyboy.

Anyway, sometimes it feels like he’s older than I am,’ she told Fabulous magazine before performing with her bandmates at the Kiis FM Jingle Ball in Anaheim.  Despite wearing skin-tight latex trousers, the group managed to put on an energetic dance routine to their latest songs When I Grow Up and I Hate This Part.

Lewis You Are a Star

Lewis Hamilton Wins watched by millions

Lewis Hamilton was watched by millions of supporting fans yesterday as he sped to victory.  He finished in fifth place but won overall.  Lewis who is only 23 years old is the youngest driver to win the title and the first British world Champion in 12 years.

Apparently his delicious Nicole girlfriend promised Lewis if he won then he could have what ever he wants from her!  Well lets guess what that might be.  As reported before new knickers maybe (I know a little family run site that would be fun and sexy!) or should that be lingerie, a holiday and diamonds, not that the girl can’t buy her own but when it is a present it is all the better.

Here are a few pictures to share…
