Kate Hudson, InStyle

On underwear: “I discovered these great undergarments I can’t live without called ‘Nearly Nude’…They’re so great. And you can wear them under any dress; they’re really thin. Also, Wolford makes a kind of slip that holds you in. It’s a little expensive, but women should invest in that! I don’t go anywhere without Calvin Klein strapless bras, and since I wear a lot of short skirts, I always have…my little boy-shorts to wear under the minis.”

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson struts it on the catwalk in boots that were made for dancing

Miss Hudson has many a film under her belt like “How to lose a guy in 10 days” and “Raising Helen”.  Almost everyone who has spent time with Kate Hudson -including directors, family members, co-stars and interviewers – is quick to comment on her ability to light up a room.  Through some combination of a winning smile, solid work ethic, and good old-fashioned talent, the young actress has gone from indie beginner to Vanity Fair cover girl in just three years.

WIth two famous Parents Goldie Hawna and Kurt Rusell who is not her birth father but she classes him as her dad.  Perhaps Hudson’s biggest break was landing the role of rock groupie in Penny Lane in Almost Famousin 2000. The part was originally intended for Sarah Polley but she backed out to pursue another project. Hudson, who had been cast in a smaller role (as William’s stewardess sister), begged for a chance to read for Penny. Crowe was impressed, Hudson got the part, and the show went on.  As much as Tinseltown gossipmongers would like to put them at odds, mother and daughter agree that Hawn is one of Hudson’s biggest supporters.  Kate has never been particularly close to her birth father, musician Bill Hudson and as written above she considers her true “Pa” to be Hawn’s longtime partner, Kurt Russell, who has lived with the family since she was three. Just a little about her!

The music started, giant fans whirled and Kate Hudson strutted on to the catwalk, spun around and shook her booty.  She was wearing a black tasselled sixties ensemble, that barely covered her, booty  with matching knee-high boots and wide weaved black tights.

Surrounding her were a groups of male dancers in grey suits, white shirts and black Ray-Bans who, as she got into the seductive beat of the song Cinema Italiano, picked her up and flipped her over.

Kate Hudson is seductive in rehearsals for Nine, a musical loosely based on the Broadway hit from 20 years ago

Then the music stopped. ‘Did my boobs fall out during that?’ Kate asked award-winning director Rob Marshall, who was huddled over a monitor studying playbacks of the scenes cinematographer Don Beebe’s team had just filmed on four cameras.

Kate Hudson: asked at the end “Did my boobs fall out during that?’  No don’t think so Kate and if hey did I am sure oit will be front page news soon.

The movie in question is Nine, it’s a musical loosely based on the stage show that was a hit on Broadway a couple of decades ago.  The picture stars Daniel Day-Lewis playing Guido Continias an Italian director in crisis – mainly over the women in his life. Those very same women come to his aid in fantasy, and reality.  It is a musical and Guido, who is in his middle age, is trying to complete his next film.  His main problem is that he has too many women in his life.  Luisa, his wife, Carla his sexy mistress, and Claudia, his muse and protege.  So the guy is a bit of a flirt then.

‘Kate suggested we should have a social with both casts, and wear name tags,’ Harvey told me. During the summer, I had observed Marshall and his team of choreographers audition chorus girls.  The audition number was Cinema Italiano, so I knew the moves intimately. One of the film’s executives noted: ‘This time there are more girls, and they’re wearing less.’

He was right. Framing Kate and her dancing ‘boys’ were similarly clad women following every bump and grind. I marvelled at how much in sync they were. Much to do, no doubt, with Marshall’s six weeks of rehearsals.

The film’s other leading ladies – Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren and Fergie – each has their own musical moment, and individual colour palette to go with it. Filming continues into December in Middlesex, followed by three weeks of shooting on locations in Italy.

Susan Sarandon hot at 60+

As reported last week Susan Sarandon may be over 60,  yes I said over 60 but from the photos she could give many a younger model a run for their money.   Susan sensational at 62 Yep 62!!! Susan Sarandon rolls back the years as she recreates Hollywood pin-up as do other top celebrities.

Susan Sarandon (born October 4, 1946) is an Academy Award-winning American actress. She was born Susan Abigail Tomalin in New York City to Phillip Leslie Tomalin (of English, Irish, and Welsh ancestry) and Lenora Marie Criscione (who was born in Ragusa, Sicily). Susan grew up as the eldest of nine children in a large Roman Catholic family. She graduated from Edison High School in 1964, and then attended The Catholic University of America from 1964 to 1968 where she attained a BA in drama. While in college, she met and married fellow student Chris Sarandon in 1967. They divorced in 1979 and she retained her married name as her stage name.  In the mid-1980s, Sarandon dated director Franco Amurri, with whom she had a daughter in 1985,  actress Eva Amurri. Since 1988, Sarandon has been in a relationship with actor Tim Robbins, whom she met while filming Bull Durham.  The couple have two sons: Jack Henry (born 1989) and Miles Guthrie (born 1992). Sarandon and Robbins are often involved in the same social and political causes.  Susan has starred in many films from The Witches of Eastwick to the legendary Thelma and Louise

In the photo that launched him into the book, Sarandon is posed seductively on the floor, legs in the air, wearing nothing more than fishnet stockings, a feather boa, a pair of Christian Louboutin heels and a beguiling smile.

Hollywood Pinups by Timothy White

Sarandon, a staunch feminist despite her regular appearance in films in a state of undress, has stripped off for a good cause. The Oscar-winning star is one of 23 stars – and certainly one of the raciest – who have recreated the style of seductive Hollywood pin-ups from the 1940s.  Susan told The Los Angeles Times: ‘There were all kinds of things going on simultaneously – I remember trying to keep the boa in place covering my breasts. I recall that it was a little bit chilly lying there on the floor. I was arching my back and they had to put my hair down and around with the boa on the floor. Celebrated photographer Timothy White convinced stars including Sarandon, Kate Hudson, Cindy Crawford, Vanessa Williams and Denise Richards to take part in the risqué images.

Kate Hudson shows her cheeky side in a fishnet body stocking and Christian Louboutin heels. The sensational shots appear in White’s coffee table book Hollywood Pin-Ups, with proceeds going to Oxfam. Despite the sexual nature of the shots, White insists the women are empowered and confident.  He said: ‘All the great pin-up artists glorified the female form without being offensive.

Polka Dot Bikini – Cindy Crawford shows off her killer abs in a polka dot bikini. Adding to the fantasy theme of the  images, White believes he has the artistic licence to digitally manipulate and airbrush the photos to perfection.  Sarandon who has been photographed by White for over 20 years and jumped at the chance to recreate the classic pin-up.

White went on to say “These weren’t meant as titillation, they are a homage to the pinup artists like Vargas and George Petty. The women they portrayed didn’t look objectified. They were strong women who looked sexy and confident and projected that confidence.” That’s why the book includes women of all ages — from 22-year-old Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen to 49-year-old Rebecca De Mornay and 62-year-old Susan Sarandon. “That smile set me off on this whole project,” said White, who captured it, then polished the image to Vargas-like perfection.

The images were inspired by Peruvian artist Alberto Vargas, who painted semi-naked women for Esquire magazine in the 1940s.  The girls became known as ‘Varga girls’ and were often painted on World War II aircraft. Hollywood Pin-ups by Timothy White is published by Collins Design, an imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers, priced at £20.  Well worth it Hollywood from the past and all for a good cause.
